Armed-ed.com has developed a three step process for setting goals that can help you successfully complete your online class or degree. The three steps are as follows:
Visual Aids:
Visualize what earning a degree or completing a class will do for you. The key is to work towards something other than simply completing your degree, while that is important, for setting goals; you need something that you can see. Reasons people earn degrees:
More Money
More Opportunities
Promotion
Setting Example (Family)
The truth of the matter is, once you earn your degree, all of these will be a reality.
Success Tip
Place a picture of your goal in a place where you can see it everyday. If its more money, put a one dollar bill somewhere, if it’s setting an example for your family, place an empty degree frame, where you can see it. The point is you have to see your goals everyday.
Reasonable Objectives:
Reasonable objectives are roadmaps to help you reach your goals. Reasonable objectives have three important factors:
Realistic
Specific
Measurable
The key is to keep your reasonable objectives within these parameters.
Success Tip
Write down your reasonable objectives, make them specific. For example, write down read chapter 2 and chapter 3 in American Government. Also, make it measurable. For example read chapters 2 and three in American Government by December 12th. Remember make your Reasonable objectives realistic.
Putting In the Work:
Now that we have all the theoretical necessities out of the way, this is where the proverbial rubber, meets the road. This is the most important factor, doing the work. There’s a definite method to accomplishing this. You must plan a way to do it, around your schedule.
Success Tip
Make a commitment to yourself to devote time to your coursework, everyday. Try to commit 45 minutes to an hour per day. Try two thirty minute sessions, or four sessions of fifteen minutes, whatever works for you.
Using these three factors, Visual Aids, Written Reasonable Objectives, and Putting in the Work, we are confident that you have a better chance at success. Nobody ever said that earning your degree, would be easy, but it’s definitely worth it.
Work hard, study hard and believe in yourself, you can do it.
