Armed-Ed.com designed the page specifically for Active Duty members in the United States Marine Corp. We have developed a 6 step process that takes the soldier from ordering military transcripts to requesting Federal Tuition Assistance.

As an active duty member of the United States Marine Corp, in good standing, you’re benefits include:

100% Tuition and fees up to $4500 per fiscal

When is the fiscal yearThe fiscal year starts October 1st and ends September 30th

$250.00 per semester credit hour
Or
$166.00 per quarter credit hour What does this mean The Marine will pay for tuition and fees up to this amount. Ex. If you choose a school that charges $300.00 per credit hour, the Marine will pay for $250.00 per credit hour. You as the soldier would be responsible for the remaining $50.00 per credit hour (most classes are 3 credit hours) Note: Marine Tuition Assistance does not cover the cost of Books.

Common Question:

What happens if my school's tuition and fees cost more than that?The Marine offers a GI Bill "Top Up benefit." This allows your Montgomery GI Bill to pay the difference between what Tuition Assistance Pays and what the course costs.

Transcripts (Active Marine)

Now that you know what your benefits are the next step is gathering all your transcripts from any school that you’ve attended. Check their website to see how to obtain copies (most schools need official transcripts) What is an official transcriptAn official transcript bears the Institutional Seal, as well as appropriate signatures. Most of the time a transcript is only considered "official" if it is sent by an institution to an institution.

It’s always a good idea to have copies for you.

Next you will need to get a copy of your SMARTS Transcripts what is thisSMARTS stands for Sailor Marine Corp American counsel on education Registry Transcript System. This is essentially everything you've done in the Marine Corp, from boot camp, to specialized training. It's equivalent to college transfer credit at some colleges.

	Choosing a Degree
Now you have copies of your transcripts as well as your military transcripts. It’s time to pick a degree. I can’t offer much help here. You have to decide what you want to do. Do you want a desk job, a degree in law enforcement do you want to teach, do you like computers, etc. Check out our Degree Profiles for help.

Picking a School

This is one of the most important steps that you’re going to take. There are a lot of things to consider when attending a school. There are different types of schools, and accreditation. You have to consider your learning style. Are you a self paced learner, or do you learn better with structure. Some schools have military scholarships, some don’t, there are so many different options, and your perfect school is out there. Military Friendly Schools

The Evaluation Process

Now that you’ve talked to a few schools, hopefully you narrowed the search down to one. They have the degree that you want, they have the online learning method that best fits you, and you’re excited to start. The school is going to perform an evaluation of your previous transcripts, for your selected program. Once that’s completed, the school should furnish you with what’s known as a degree plan/education plan What is thisYou’ll need this later. *Note: Some schools may charge a fee for the evaluation or application*

Requesting Tuition Assistance

You have everything you need, the last step is requesting Tuition Assistance.
Using your degree plan/education plan that you’ve received from your school, fill out this Federal Tuition Assistance form

Congratulations you’ve successfully requested tuition assistance for your course(s). Contact your school and let them know that you’ve completed the Tuition Assistance Request
