Here you will find an explanation of the two main learning methods used by online schools. Asynchronous and Synchronous, here’s a brief description of both to assist you in making an informed decision about the model that best fits your learning style.
Asynchronous
Asynchronous is a teaching method also known as “Self Paced” for delivery of training / schooling materials or content using computer technology. It is an approach to providing technology-based training/schooling that incorporates learner-centric models of instruction. The asynchronous format basic principle is self-directed modules that allow the student to move forward when the learner is prepared to. This method allows students to “fast track” their way through classes.
Synchronous
Synchronous refers to a group of people learning the same things at the same time for a predetermined amount of time. This teaching model is practiced in most traditional schools. Lectures are an example of synchronous learning. But, with the advent of web conferencing tools, people can now learn at the same time while in different places.
